Contemporary Beadwork
June 3 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This four-week contemporary beadwork series (6-8 p.m. Tuesdays, June 3-24) will teach you the basics of off-loom beadweaving using needle, thread, and seed beads. Each class will teach a beading stitch or concept with a pattern for a small piece of jewelry (ring, pendant, or earrings) which can be started in class and finished on your own time after class. The series is designed to build on the knowledge learned from the previous class so it is best taken in the series; however, a confident beginner should be able to be successful with any individual class. Previous beadweaving experience is not required and any experience with hand sewing, cross stitch, or embroidery will be beneficial.
All supplies will be provided for a $10 supply fee per class: $40 total.
Class 1: Even-count peyote stitch ring with daisy motif
Class 2: Trinity necklace (folded flat triangle)
Class 3: Warped Square earrings
Class 4: Tri-Wing ring
NOTE: Each of the first three classes can be taken as a stand-alone class with a $10 per class supplies fee (just bring the fee in person). The last class is a culmination of the first three classes and is a culmination of the series so the first three classes are required for that class. Register for the full series below.
Teresa Shelton Bio
By integrating mathematics and physics principles with tiny seed beads, I create sculptural and wearable art. With every stitched bead, I incorporate structure, form, movement, and color into my artwork to achieve bold statement pieces with unexpected surprises.
In the 90’s, I wandered into a bead shop and bought a book on Native American beadweaving techniques and a few tubes of mixed seed beads. That was enough to start my love of beadweaving. Over the past ten years, I have become passionate about geometric beadweaving, and my occupation as a printed circuit board manufacturability engineer inspires the geometric style in my art and allows me to easily merge the technical with the creative. I currently live in Orofino with my husband, some crazy chickens, and a demanding feline overlord. Learn more at www.teresashelton.com
