Eco-Printing on Paper: Nature-Inspired Printing Techniques

Discover the beauty of eco-printing in this hands-on class, where nature becomes both your inspiration and your printing source. Students will learn how to create unique prints on paper using materials gathered from nature, exploring the colors, textures, and shapes found in leaves, flowers, and other plant matter. Through two different eco-printing methods, participants will experiment with heat, steam, and pressure to transfer natural marks and pigments onto paper. Along the way, students will gain an understanding of the process, compare results from each technique, and create their own one-of-a-kind botanical prints to take home. This class is ideal for anyone interested in nature-based art, printmaking, or creative experimentation.
Instructor: Susan White is an artist and maker who studies, experiments, creates, and shares what she loves as a teacher and friend. She has been ecoprinting using a variety of methods and materials for eight years. In addition to ecoprinting, Susan has worked with all manner of materials – fiber, clay, glass, wood, metal, paint, and paper. After a 34-year career with the U.S. Forest Service, she now has ample time to focus on her gardens, freemotion embroidery, and a range of crafts. Susan has always loved to create in a variety of media. She first learned knitting, sewing, crochet, weaving, basketry and more from her mother and grandmother. There were painted rocks, painted paper boxes and other skills learned through Girl Scouts along with pottery and craft classes throughout high school, as well as photography and metalworking for jewelry in college. She is a Certified Zentangle Teacher and taught drawing to grade school kids for many years and to adults who didn’t believe they could draw. Her works have been published in Handwoven magazine, Cloth Paper Scissors magazine, and Rug Hooking magazine.
