SUMMARY:How Do I Love Thee? A Love Poetry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop invites poets and dreamers of all backgrounds to explore the many dimensions of love through poetry. Participants will read and discuss works that celebrate love in its diverse forms—romantic\, familial\, community\, and beyond—while developing their own authentic voice. Through guided creative prompts\, the class fosters a supportive space for creating poems from the heart. No prior writing experience is required; only an open heart and a willingness to express it in words. \nOptional: After the class\, there will be supplies on hand to create valentines from your poems! \nFacilitator:\nTheresa Henson is a poet\, sculptor\, and pianist whose work explores the intersections of sound\, form\, and language. She studied poetics and visual art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago\, where she earned her Master of Fine Arts. Henson’s practice bridges disciplines to evoke the rhythms of landscape and memory. Her poetry often mirrors the tactile qualities of her sculptural work\, while her compositions draw inspiration from natural patterns and silence. She lives and works in the Clearwater Valley\, Idaho\, where the surrounding wilderness continues to shape her creative vision. She is a co-founder of River Arts. Learn more at thenson.net. \nFREE ~ Open to anyone with a heart for writing. \nPlease RSVP. If your plans change after registering\, please let us know if you cannot attend so we may offer the space to another. The class is free and you will also have an option to make a donation to support continued free arts programming for Kamiah and beyond. You can bypass this option by just hitting “Continue”. SUMMARY:Learning Acrylic Painting ~ Four Class Series
DESCRIPTION:Local painter Doug Boomer will guide in this four-class exploration of acrylic painting for beginner to intermediate painters. The class will take place 10 am to 1 pm Wednesdays\, February 4\, 11\, 18\, and 25. \nDoug Boomer was born and raised in California.  During his youth he grew up on a farm in the San Joaquin Valley\, spending summer vacations camping in the Sierras. When he was about eight years old\, he was inspired by an uncle who was oil painting portraits and various scenes.  He was also inspired by many artists he met at various art shows where his two brothers were exhibitors. \nIn his representational paintings\, primarily in acrylics and watercolors\, he tries to express the subject he’s painting in such a way that the viewer has an emotional response.  Whether the subject is a figure\, a flower\, an animal\, or a landscape\, he attempts to capture the spirit of the subject with light\, color\, mood\, or motion. Learn more at DougBoomerart.com \nAll supplies provided. \nAges 14 and up. \nPlease RSVP. If your plans change after registering\, please let us know if you cannot attend so we may offer the space to another. You will also have an option to make a donation to support continued free arts programming for Kamiah and beyond. You can bypass this option by just hitting “Continue”. SUMMARY:Create a Sanity Journal
DESCRIPTION:Sanity Journal with Alina Bettancourt: Come create a beautiful reflection of YOU!\nDiscover the joy of self-expression through Sanity Journaling\, a creative practice developed and refined by Alina Bettancourt over many years. This class invites participants to explore their inner world through artful journaling—combining words\, images\, and color to create a deeply personal reflection of life\, dreams\, and emotions. \nThere is no right or wrong way to do this. Each page becomes a space for authenticity\, play\, and self-discovery. Whether the process feels lighthearted or profound\, every mark and collage piece contributes to a unique story—your own. \nParticipants will experiment with a variety of materials\, including magazine cut-outs\, paint\, markers\, pencils\, and pens. The journal can hold affirmations\, meaningful quotes\, personal insights\, memories\, or simply serve as a creative playground for new artistic techniques. \nThis is a space free of judgment and full of encouragement. The goal is to honor individuality\, embrace imperfection\, and celebrate the beauty of self-expression. \nBring your curiosity\, your imagination\, and your heart—and create a journal that reflects the essence of you. \nAlina Bettancourt is a lover of creating beauty in the world through art. She enjoys creating with different media\, and her favorite is loose watercolor painting. She is a retired marriage-family therapist (MFT)\, a physical fitness trainer\, developer of BIW (a meditative exercise program)\, and recently is a certified Primal Reflex Release Technique practitioner (PRRT). Alina is a mother of 6 grown kids and 13 grandchildren. She lives a quiet cabin life in Clearwater\, Idaho\, fully enjoying many winter hours of guilt-free painting. \nPlease RSVP. If your plans change after registering\, please let us know if you cannot attend so we may offer the space to another. You will also have an option to make a donation to support continued free arts programming for Kamiah and beyond. You can bypass this option by just hitting “Continue”. You will be able to put in the names of everyone in your group and you will also receive email confirmation of your registration and event reminders. \nPlease be on time. We look forward to seeing you in the studio! \nAges: 12 and up; unless a previous arrangement has been made\, kids must be accompanied by a supervising adult. \nFREE ~ Participants are welcome to stay longer in the studio if they need more time. \n \n

SUMMARY:Stumpwork: Sculptural Embroidery -- FULL
DESCRIPTION:Stumpwork\, a three-dimensional embroidery technique\, was popular in 17th century England. (It is commonly referred to as Elizabethan Stumpwork). \nThis class is a continuation of the December 6 class and we will focus on making a blackberry. The class should also be fairly easy for newcomers. \nClass Details \nAge restrictions:  No younger than eleven.  Anyone under thirteen must be accompanied by an adult. \nKit: $20 (for all the berries) — Please bring supplies fee to class.\nBring small\, sharp scissors if you have them.\n~~~ \nAbout the Saragrace Knauf: \nI was born\, second of three children\, to a family of modest means. Both my parents worked in the theatrical arts. My father was a director\, dramaturg\, and actor. My mother was both an actor and director. I\, wanting to avoid academic life and poverty\, steered as far from the theater as I could. \nMy first bout with college had me headed towards a major in marine biology and philosophy. As I was working my way through college\, I quickly became aware that I was unable to handle both school and work. \nSo\, the short story is I quit and joined the US navy. I went into their nuclear power program back in 1979. I was one of 500 women who went into the program and also one of 50 who made it through. (Lest you think something great of me\, this was the same attrition rate as for men). \nAfter six years of that\, I went back to school and got a mechanical engineering degree and a minor in philosophy. I worked for 13 years in the commercial nuclear power field and spent some time back in grad school pursuing a masters in computational biology and a certificate in scholarly publishing and medieval and renaissance studies. \nI married my second husband when I was thirty-four. No kids\, lots of animals. \nMy hobbies include historic costuming\, gardening (horseback riding-not anymore!)\, an’ dollin’ (soft sculpture). \nPHOTO: Jan Kerton \n\n\nThis class is full.
