DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the season of renewal through the art of poetry. This inclusive workshop invites writers of all levels to explore language\, rhythm\, and imagery inspired by spring’s transformations. Participants will read and discuss contemporary poems\, experiment with new writing prompts\, and share their own work in a supportive\, creative space. Together\, the group will explore themes of growth\, change\, and connection to the natural world while developing tools to strengthen poetic voice and craft. Open to all—no prior experience required. \nFacilitator:\nTheresa Henson is a poet\, sculptor\, and pianist whose work explores the intersections of sound\, form\, and language. A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago\, where she earned her MFA\, Henson’s practice bridges disciplines to evoke the rhythms of landscape and memory. Her poetry often mirrors the tactile qualities of her sculptural work\, while her compositions draw inspiration from natural patterns and silence. She lives and works in the Clearwater Valley\, Idaho\, where the surrounding wilderness continues to shape her creative vision. This amazing creation never ceases to astound her and she spends time photographing\, sketching\, and painting the beauty. \nShe has worked as a fire lookout in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California\, a lifeguard\, a trail guide for a state park\, a folk singer in a restaurant\, motel maid\, swim instructor\, elementary school teacher in Hawaii and Oregon\, organic farmer in Hawaii\, and as a writer and illustrator of children’s books and other publications. She currently gives watercolor seminars at the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood. Friends and family are paramount in her life. Still an avid gardener\, she would rather have her hands in the dirt than just about anywhere else. DESCRIPTION:Local artist Veronica Hattrup will guide in this four-class exploration of drawing portraits. This class takes place 10 a.m. to noon April 11\, 18\, 25 and May 2\, 9\, and 16. \nIn this class you will learn how to construct a face in relationship to features and then move to shading\, taking the technical and shading it into three-dimensions. You will learn how to bring as much realism to the human face as possible. \nAll levels welcome. Ages 12 and up. \nNOTE: Please bring a high quality photo of an adult person you would like to draw. \nVeronica Hattrup is a local artist and member of the Central Idaho Art Association (CIAA). She showed her work at the CIAA BBQ Days Show at River Arts\, including the portrait above of her niece. She is inspired by her family and the grace of daily life. \nFREE \nPlease RSVP. SUMMARY:Peace Ring Bead-In
DESCRIPTION:Join TOHO Beads\, Teresa Shelton Designs\, and River Arts Kamiah\, for a free\, all-ages community bead-in for peace on Saturday April 18 from 1-4pm during open studio hours. We will be participating in the Global Peace Ring Project by making and joining beaded rings into a portion of a larger Peace Ring chain. \nThe goal of the TOHO Peace Ring Project is to bring Peace and connect people\, one bead\, and one link at a time. The hope is for people all around the globe to come together to bead a mile long chain which will be installed at the Mall of America in Bloomington\, MN on August 6\, 2026 (a Day of Peace in Japan\, where TOHO Beads are made). This is an important Date in Japanese Culture and one that carries significant meaning for both The US and Japan. The word bead has its roots meaning “to pray”. As we sew the peace rings\, may much positive energy be released for peace in the world. \nAll supplies will be provided during the bead-in. If you’re an experienced beader or new to beads and just want to participate\, join us at the studio and we’ll help you make a link (or many links) to add to the chain. \nIf you can’t make it to the studio\, we will have a collection bin at the studio where you can bead your own peace rings or a short chain of linked rings and they will be added to the larger chain before being shipped off to MN for the Grande Connection. Any stitch or beads can be used and each ring should be 1-3 inches long. A mile long chain of beads needs to be sturdy for the installation to last for many years so please no elastic stringing materials and please reinforce your rings with multiple thread passes to help make them extra strong. \nPeace rings for the chain will be accepted at River Arts Kamiah until Saturday\, June 13 so we have enough time to join all the rings together and prepare them for shipping. \nYou can find out more about the TOHO Peace Ring Project on the Upper Midwest Bead Society website at https://www.umbs.org/peace-chain-project.html \nThis event is drop-in — no registration is required.
