SUMMARY:Artist's Way Group / Sanity Journaling
DESCRIPTION:This is an ongoing group that meets every two weeks 1-3 p.m. Saturdays. \nTogether\, we explore The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron\, a program designed to help people overcome creative blocks and reconnect with their inner artist through a series of readings\, exercises\, and tools like “Morning Pages” (three pages of stream-of-consciousness writing) and “Artist Dates” (solo creative outings). \nWe also explore self-expression through Sanity Journaling\, a creative practice developed and refined by Alina Bettancourt over many years. This class invites participants to explore their inner world through artful journaling—combining words\, images\, and color to create a deeply personal reflection of life\, dreams\, and emotions. \nThere is no right or wrong way to do this. Each page becomes a space for authenticity\, play\, and self-discovery. Whether the process feels lighthearted or profound\, every mark and collage piece contributes to a unique story—your own. \nParticipants will experiment with a variety of materials\, including magazine cut-outs\, paint\, markers\, pencils\, and pens. The journal can hold affirmations\, meaningful quotes\, personal insights\, memories\, or simply serve as a creative playground for new artistic techniques. \nThis is a space free of judgment and full of encouragement. The goal is to honor individuality\, embrace imperfection\, and celebrate the beauty of self-expression. \nBring your curiosity\, your imagination\, and your heart! \n\nSUPPLIES\nAlso bring your journal! We recommend this 8.5 x 11 blank page sketchbook.\nWe also recommend getting a copy of The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. You can order a used copy from Ebay or Amazon for about $5.\n\nAlina Bettancourt is a lover of creating beauty in the world through art. She enjoys creating with different media\, and her favorite is loose watercolor painting. She is a retired marriage-family therapist (MFT)\, a physical fitness trainer\, developer of BIW (a meditative exercise program)\, and recently is a certified Primal Reflex Release Technique practitioner (PRRT). Alina is a mother of 6 grown kids and 13 grandchildren. She lives a quiet cabin life in Clearwater\, Idaho\, fully enjoying many winter hours of guilt-free painting.

SUMMARY:Eco-Printing on Paper: Nature-Inspired Printing Techniques
DESCRIPTION:Discover the beauty of eco-printing in this hands-on class\, where nature becomes both your inspiration and your printing source. Students will learn how to create unique prints on paper using materials gathered from nature\, exploring the colors\, textures\, and shapes found in leaves\, flowers\, and other plant matter. Through two different eco-printing methods\, participants will experiment with heat\, steam\, and pressure to transfer natural marks and pigments onto paper. Along the way\, students will gain an understanding of the process\, compare results from each technique\, and create their own one-of-a-kind botanical prints to take home. This class is ideal for anyone interested in nature-based art\, printmaking\, or creative experimentation. \nInstructor: Susan White is an artist and maker who studies\, experiments\, creates\, and shares what she loves as a teacher and friend. She has been ecoprinting using a variety of methods and materials for eight years. In addition to ecoprinting\, Susan has worked with all manner of materials – fiber\, clay\, glass\, wood\, metal\, paint\, and paper. After a 34-year career with the U.S. Forest Service\, she now has ample time to focus on her gardens\, freemotion embroidery\, and a range of crafts. Susan has always loved to create in a variety of media. She first learned knitting\, sewing\, crochet\, weaving\, basketry and more from her mother and grandmother. There were painted rocks\, painted paper boxes and other skills learned through Girl Scouts along with pottery and craft classes throughout high school\, as well as photography and metalworking for jewelry in college. She is a Certified Zentangle Teacher and taught drawing to grade school kids for many years and to adults who didn’t believe they could draw. Her works have been published in Handwoven magazine\, Cloth Paper Scissors magazine\, and Rug Hooking magazine. \nSupplies fee: $15 \nAges 16 and up. \nThis class is limited to 8 people so please register — and bring a lunch! \nPlease RSVP. If your plans change after registering\, please let us know if you cannot attend so we may offer the space to another. SUMMARY:Beaded Star Ornament
DESCRIPTION:In this four-hour contemporary beadweaving class\, you will learn to use a beading needle\, thread\, and seed beads to make a 3D beaded star ornament. The star ornament is composed of five warped square components which are stitched together to make the 3D star. The basic warped square will be made in class\, and stitching together the first two squares will be demonstrated in class. \nWritten instructions will be provided so you can finish making the warped squares and assemble the star on your own time after class. This is an advanced-beginner class; however\, an adventurous & confident beginner should be able to complete the project.  Previous beadweaving experience is recommended but not required. Any experience with hand sewing\, cross stitch\, or embroidery will be beneficial. \nSupplies fee: $10 \nBring a lunch/snacks! \nAges 12 and over. \n\n\n\nTeresa Shelton Bio \nBy integrating mathematics and physics principles with tiny seed beads\, I create sculptural and wearable art. With every stitched bead\, I incorporate structure\, form\, movement\, and color into my artwork to achieve bold statement pieces with unexpected surprises. \nIn the 90’s\, I wandered into a bead shop and bought a book on Native American beadweaving techniques and a few tubes of mixed seed beads. That was enough to start my love of beadweaving. Over the past ten years\, I have become passionate about geometric beadweaving\, and my occupation as a printed circuit board manufacturability engineer inspires the geometric style in my art and allows me to easily merge the technical with the creative. I currently live in Orofino with my husband\, some crazy chickens\, and a demanding feline overlord. Learn more at www.teresashelton.com \nPlease RSVP. If your plans change after registering\, please let us know if you cannot attend so we may offer the space to another. The class is free and you will also have an option to make a donation to support continued free arts programming for Kamiah and beyond. You can bypass this option by just hitting “Continue”. You will be able to put in the names of everyone in your group and you will also receive email confirmation of your registration and event reminders. \nWe look forward to seeing you in the studio!
