SUMMARY:Stumpwork Berry Tassels
DESCRIPTION:Stumpwork\, a three-dimensional embroidery technique\, was popular in 17th century England. (It is commonly referred to as Elizabethan Stumpwork). \nThese darling ‘tassels’ are easy\, and make great gifts.  They can be used to keep track of your little scissors or can even be used as tiny ornaments on a tiny Christmas or Easter tree. \nClass Details \nAge restrictions:  No younger than eleven.  Anyone under thirteen must be accompanied by an adult. \nClass supplies fee (payable to instructor): $20 \n  \nPLEASE RSVP WITH THE LINK BELOW ~ ONLY RSVP IF YOU ARE SURE YOU CAN COME  \n~~~ \nAbout the Saragrace Knauf: \nI was born\, second of three children\, to a family of modest means. Both my parents worked in the theatrical arts. My father was a director\, dramaturg\, and actor. My mother was both an actor and director. I\, wanting to avoid academic life and poverty\, steered as far from the theater as I could. \nMy first bout with college had me headed towards a major in marine biology and philosophy. As I was working my way through college\, I quickly became aware that I was unable to handle both school and work. \nSo\, the short story is I quit and joined the US navy. I went into their nuclear power program back in 1979. I was one of 500 women who went into the program and also one of 50 who made it through. (Lest you think something great of me\, this was the same attrition rate as for men). \nAfter six years of that\, I went back to school and got a mechanical engineering degree and a minor in philosophy. I worked for 13 years in the commercial nuclear power field and spent some time back in grad school pursuing a masters in computational biology and a certificate in scholarly publishing and medieval and renaissance studies. \nI married my second husband when I was thirty-four. No kids\, lots of animals. \nMy hobbies include historic costuming\, gardening (horseback riding-not anymore!)\, an’ dollin’ (soft sculpture). \nPHOTO: Jan Kerton

SUMMARY:Beginning Needle Felting: Pumpkin
DESCRIPTION:In this beginning needle felting class\, local artist Saragrace Knauf will guide in making a pumpkin approximately 4″ x 4″. Needle felting is a fun and relaxing craft that can be enjoyed by anyone\, regardless of their experience with other kinds of art. Needle felting uses unspun wool to create small animals and objects\, or flat pictures that can be framed. Using high-quality Romney wool\, this project is a great way to learn the basics of needle felting and to create a beautiful\, handmade work of art. \n~~~ \nClass Details \nAge restrictions:  No younger than eleven.  Anyone under thirteen must be accompanied by an adult. \nClass supplies fee (please bring to class):  $30 — or $20 if you already have needles\, finger protection\, and a felting surface. \nPLEASE RSVP WITH THE LINK BELOW ~ ONLY RSVP IF YOU ARE SURE YOU CAN COME AS WE HAVE LIMITED KITS AVAILABLE \n~~~ \nAbout the Saragrace Knauf: \nI was born\, second of three children\, to a family of modest means.

SUMMARY:*Postponed* Poetry Workshop With CMarie Fuhrman
DESCRIPTION:Due to a family emergency the poetry workshop with CMarie Fuhrman is postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.\nThe Power of Articles: How A\, An\, and The Can Shape Our Perceptions \n\nWhat’s the difference between a crisis and the crisis? Or simply stating\, “Crisis is here”? Everything. In our writing and speech\, the smallest words—and their deliberate omission—do the heaviest lifting as powerful\, nearly invisible tools of persuasion. \nThis nuts-and-bolts session investigates how ‘a\,’ ‘an\,’ ‘the\,’ and/or their absence shape our world. We’ll move beyond grammar to see how this choice can include or exclude people and establish authority. We’ll see how it can grant legitimacy\, challenge authority\, and fundamentally alter our relationship with our reader\, each other\, and the more-than-human world\, turning a river into the river that sustains a community\, or simply river which has agency\, or positioning nature as a resource to be used or as the Earth to which we belong. This single decision shifts the entire emotional\, political\, and ecological landscape of a statement.\n\nYou will leave with the ability to spot this influence everywhere and to use it with intention—crafting sentences and poetic lines that are more persuasive\, prose that is more powerful\, and arguments that are impossible to ignore. \nNote: All curious minds are welcome. The only prerequisite is a fascination with how language truly works. \n\n\n  \nBio:\nCMarie Fuhrman is a writer\, teacher\, and part-time fire lookout whose work is inspired by the Western landscape. She is the author of Salmon Weather: Writing from the Land of No Return\, the poetry chapbook Camped Beneath the Dam\, as well as the co-editor of two significant anthologies\, Cascadia Field Guide: Art\, Ecology\, and Poetry and Native Voices: Indigenous Poetry\, Craft\, and Conversations. She has poetry and nonfiction published or forthcoming in a variety of publications\, including Terrain.org\, Emergence Magazine\, Alta Magazine\, Northwest Review\, Yellow Medicine Review\, Poetry Northwest\, Big Sky Journal\, and various anthologies. CMarie is the director of the Elk River Writers Workshop and an award-winning columnist for The Inlander. She is the Associate Director of Western Colorado University’s Graduate Program in Creative Writing\, and founder of Confluence Writing Community. CMarie is the host of Terra Firma\, a Colorado Public Radio program. She is a former Idaho Writer in Residence and lives in the Salmon River Mountains of Idaho. \nwww.cmariefuhrman.com \nFREE \nRSVP with the link below.
