For ages 8-12\, all materials provided. SUMMARY:Soft Sculpture: Zaftig Fire Fairy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is a two-class soft sculpture workshop that will take place on June 20 and 27\, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. \nWhat is soft sculpture? There are many ways to do it\, but as an introduction I will be teaching the techniques of tracing/sewing (on a machine)\, stuffing and decorating a cloth doll made from a commercial pattern. I will also bring several books from my library and photos of some of my creations to show off the world of ‘art dolls.’ Hopefully this will inspire others to pursue this fun art.\nI will bring two sewing machines\, but it would be helpful if participants could bring their own.\nMachines need to only be able to do a small straight stitch. If you have a Singer featherweight….they are perfect! \nParticipants are asked to bring a fat quarter (18 X 22.5″) of fabric and thread to match. Sturdy quilting cotton is fine. The sample is made from synthetic molecloth. The artist recommends hand dyed fabric. \nSupplies Fee: $20 ~ The kit will include a pattern (https://www.fabric-chicks.com/shop/Dolls-and-Crafts/elinor-peace-bailey-Dolls/p/epb-Zaftig.htm)\nStuffing\nFusible Interfacing\nButton Thread\nFray Check\nSome novelty fiber and or wire ribbon.\n#7 Darner\nColorful mohair or feathers for ‘hair.’ \nInstructor: Saragrace Knauf\nI was born\, second of three children\, to a family of modest means. Both my parents (now deceased) worked in the theatrical arts. My father was a director\, dramaturg\, and actor. My mother was both an actor and director. I\, wanting to avoid the academic life and poverty\, steered as far from the theater as I could. I am retired from commercial nuclear power\, where I worked as a mechanical engineer. I married my second husband when I was thirty-four. No kids\, lots of animals. My hobbies include historic costuming\, gardening (horsebackriding-not anymore!)\, an’ dollin’ (softsculpture and needlefelting). \nPlease RSVP so that we can plan for enough supplies.
