SUMMARY:Stumpwork: Sculptural Embroidery -- FULL
DESCRIPTION:Stumpwork\, a three-dimensional embroidery technique\, was popular in 17th century England. (It is commonly referred to as Elizabethan Stumpwork). \nThis class is a continuation of the December 6 class and we will focus on making a blackberry. The class should also be fairly easy for newcomers. \nClass Details \nAge restrictions:  No younger than eleven.  Anyone under thirteen must be accompanied by an adult. \nKit: $20 (for all the berries) — Please bring supplies fee to class.\nBring small\, sharp scissors if you have them.\n~~~ \nAbout the Saragrace Knauf: \nI was born\, second of three children\, to a family of modest means. Both my parents worked in the theatrical arts. My father was a director\, dramaturg\, and actor. My mother was both an actor and director. I\, wanting to avoid academic life and poverty\, steered as far from the theater as I could. \nMy first bout with college had me headed towards a major in marine biology and philosophy. As I was working my way through college\, I quickly became aware that I was unable to handle both school and work. \nSo\, the short story is I quit and joined the US navy. I went into their nuclear power program back in 1979. I was one of 500 women who went into the program and also one of 50 who made it through. (Lest you think something great of me\, this was the same attrition rate as for men). \nAfter six years of that\, I went back to school and got a mechanical engineering degree and a minor in philosophy. I worked for 13 years in the commercial nuclear power field and spent some time back in grad school pursuing a masters in computational biology and a certificate in scholarly publishing and medieval and renaissance studies. \nI married my second husband when I was thirty-four. No kids\, lots of animals. \nMy hobbies include historic costuming\, gardening (horseback riding-not anymore!)\, an’ dollin’ (soft sculpture). \nPHOTO: Jan Kerton \n\n\nThis class is full.

SUMMARY:Create a Sanity Journal
DESCRIPTION:Sanity Journal with Alina Bettancourt: Come create a beautiful reflection of YOU!\nDiscover the joy of self-expression through Sanity Journaling\, a creative practice developed and refined by Alina Bettancourt over many years. This class invites participants to explore their inner world through artful journaling—combining words\, images\, and color to create a deeply personal reflection of life\, dreams\, and emotions. \nThere is no right or wrong way to do this. Each page becomes a space for authenticity\, play\, and self-discovery. Whether the process feels lighthearted or profound\, every mark and collage piece contributes to a unique story—your own. \nParticipants will experiment with a variety of materials\, including magazine cut-outs\, paint\, markers\, pencils\, and pens. The journal can hold affirmations\, meaningful quotes\, personal insights\, memories\, or simply serve as a creative playground for new artistic techniques. \nThis is a space free of judgment and full of encouragement. The goal is to honor individuality\, embrace imperfection\, and celebrate the beauty of self-expression. \nBring your curiosity\, your imagination\, and your heart—and create a journal that reflects the essence of you. \nAlina Bettancourt is a lover of creating beauty in the world through art. She enjoys creating with different media\, and her favorite is loose watercolor painting. She is a retired marriage-family therapist (MFT)\, a physical fitness trainer\, developer of BIW (a meditative exercise program)\, and recently is a certified Primal Reflex Release Technique practitioner (PRRT). Alina is a mother of 6 grown kids and 13 grandchildren. She lives a quiet cabin life in Clearwater\, Idaho\, fully enjoying many winter hours of guilt-free painting. \nPlease RSVP. If your plans change after registering\, please let us know if you cannot attend so we may offer the space to another. You will also have an option to make a donation to support continued free arts programming for Kamiah and beyond. You can bypass this option by just hitting “Continue”.
